Claudia

I finish passing out my last glass of wine to a guest over in Jessica’s area, and make my way back to the kitchen, weaving in and out through the mass of people, trying not to run into anyone. I’m halfway there when a man, apparently not paying attention to where he is going, steps right in front of me. In my attempt to evade the man, I jump quickly to the side but in the process bump into something, and that something is hard. It knocks the wind out of me, and I feel myself start to fall, but strong arms grab me and save me from an embarrassing collision with the ground. I cough a few times, trying to get air back into my lungs.

“Why, hello there beautiful. Are you okay?” I hear a honey-drenched voice and immediately take in the scent of mahogany with a little apple. Mine, my wolf pushes to me. I flick my eyes up to the face the voice comes from, and the breath I just took is gone again. The man, whose arms are holding me up, is sexy as fuck. He has chestnut colored hair that is short on the sides with longer locks on top slicked back. His eyes are iridescent grey, framed by long black lashes. He has a defined jawline and downward-turned lips that beg to be kissed.

“Miss, are you okay? You ran into me pretty hard.” The man speaks again, helping me stand back up. I feel a blush creep over my face and heat stir in my lower belly. My eyes travel over his body taking in his light grey suit with a white button up and black dress shoes that have a point on the end. He’s tall, at least six foot two with a medium frame that’s more on the lean athletic side. His shoulders are broad, and from the way the suit is bunching around his arms hints at the muscles, I would find underneath all those clothes. Fuck, I bet he is gorgeous naked. I blink a few times willing my brain to fire on all cylinders – something, anything would be better than continuing to stare at him.

MINE, my wolf pushes again, louder this time and prowls back and forth in my head. She hasn’t done this since that night with Granger, and it’s confusing the hell out of me. I try to ignore her the best I can while answering, “Yes.” My voice is sounding breathless and not because I’m still recovering from the loss of air in my lungs.

His mouth curves into a wide smile. “So, do I get to know the name of the woman who almost ran me down?” His scent and touch are lighting my body on fire; I’m having a hard time concentrating on what he is saying.

“My…” I squeak, then clear my throat, “my name is Claudia.”

“Well, it’s very nice to meet you. I’m Ascher by the way. Also, if you ever need anyone to run into in the future, I’m willing to volunteer for the job.
